| I survived BLACK FRIDAY! |
[Nov. 28th, 2009|10:21 am] |
Yes I did. I didn't get yelled at by one customer nor did I get trampled, stomped, shoved or in anyway Folded, Stapled, Spindled or Mutilated. The perks of working in a craft store as opposed to a department store we get the overflow and people shopping Christmas decor. We had Cricut machines for $69.99! OMG! Heard lots of horror stories about Target and Best Buy, we had a blizzard, one cashier didn't show, so they stuck me at a register (boo)but only for a while then back on the floor to play with Christmas ornaments and show people around. Off by noon and free till... well tonight anyway. |

| Food is fun! |
[Nov. 28th, 2009|06:08 pm] |
I had lunch at Yo Sushi with thanatos_kalos today. Eating there is so much fun! All these exquisite sushi dishes run past you on a conveyor belt and you just grab what you want to eat. Then at the end they just count the empties to calculate your bill. Of course, that means you've got to be careful not to eat too much, which would be really easy as almost every dish looks fantastic.
I am definitely going to eat there again. Probably far more often than I should. Still, it's healthy food, so I can feel virtous about that.
After sushi I saw New Moon at the cinema...it's a far better film than Twilight but that's not saying much and I still found it terribly sick-making. Bella is so freaking wet; evidently between movies she's lost even the teeny bit of backbone she showed toward the end of the previous film. I think it's fantastic that a movie so wholly in a female POV is so popular, but the thought of someone so pathetic being a role model for a whole generation is scary. Which the film is not (and I guess that's my real problem with the franchise - vampires and werewolves are supposed to be scary goddammit! Those werewolves looked like giant teddy bears. And don't get me started on vegetarian sparkly vampires.)
Tomorrow I must marzipan my Christmas cakes and plan how I'm going to decorate them.

| Recipe: Winter Duck Casserole |
[Nov. 28th, 2009|05:51 pm] |
I'm in the middle of inventing an ad hoc recipe, so I will document it here in real time for the curious (and also for posterity in case it turns out to actually taste good *g*). In effect, this is a recipe WIP! Or perhaps that makes it a RIP... nope, that just looks wrong!
ETA1: I put the casserole in the oven at 5.40 pm, and turned the heat down at 6.10. It is now 6.25 pm and it smells wonderful! I am resisting the urge to take the lid off and look at it for another half-an-hour at least.
ETA2: 8.00 pm: Had a stir and a taste - just lovely! Was lacking nothing more than a bit of extra sage at that point, so I shredded and added the rest. If dried sage was used initially there would be no need to add more, I think. Fresh herbs, though, need not to cook too long, hence the late, extra addition. I am guessing this will be ready to eat by 9.00, with no further adjustment, and have got some lovely fresh bread to serve with it (which I just need to pop in the oven to warm up about ten minutes before I am ready to eat)
Final ETA: 9.00 pm it was ready to eat. OMG, it was just gorgeous. I served it with warmed, locally made Italian blue cheese & dill bread, which was spread with kalamata olive tapenade.
In short, this recipe is highly recommended :-)

I'm made of suck and haven't mentioned the birthdays of two very lovely ladies. Happy belated birthday stellamira and mickeym. I hope you both had lovely days ♥
I'm so behind in everything right now, tv watching, emails -- I look at my in-box and have woe. Do not forget me friends! I still love you! Pretty much all my online time is taken up with writing, but there's light at the end of the drawn_to tunnel at least.
So, a down and dirty catch up.
My sister is moving into a house a few up from mine. This means in a row of houses on the estate it'll go my house ----- kayleigh's ----- mam's. The house she's in right now sucks big time and the neighbours she has are horrible, doing things like spitting on her girlfriend's car so I'm glad she's getting out.
Our car blew a tire which led to sitting in the cold and dark for a long time as James tried to sort out huge fail by the garage who'd sent out a brand new car without the thing needed to take off the locking wheel nuts, which meant the RAC man had to break them off so he get the tire off and then go and get a new one from another garage.
My monitor has been acting up again. I'm getting a new one for Christmas so I just hope it hangs in there until then.
We're actually organised for Christmas this year, to the extent James went out and delivered the cards to the estate people yesterday. Whether they'd have been happy getting them so early is another matter. Really the only thing that needs sorting is the food and I intend to book an online Asda slot for that soon. When I told James I was doing that he got all sad and said that we usually enjoyed doing the grocery shopping before Christmas, and no, no I don't. The shop is always crowded, too hot and pure chaos. You end up queuing for ages then have to pack your bags, get them into the car, get them out of the car and round to the house to be unpacked. If I can sit and order everything online to be delivered that's exactly what I'm going to do.
I have a cold, but that's okay because I also have hot orange and blackcurrant lemsip.
This morning I've been puzzling over the whole first comment thing. I know I've griped about this before but I don't get it. I especially don't get people who jump in there to get first comment and then say there's going to read the fic. What happens if they hate it? If I ever start giving out first comment cookies you'll know I've lost my mind. |

| News from my folks... |
[Nov. 27th, 2009|08:23 pm] |
My mother has been weak and out of sorts for four weeks now. The doctor finally called her and told her that she has anemia and that she's to take vitamins. So mom does what this doctor says to do. My dad is on oxygen all the time and has to test his level every day to be sure he's getting enough, so he had mom sit down and do it and her oxygen level was 34. My dad has Emphysema and his reads in the 80's all the time. So dad rushed her up to Urgent care and they sent her right to the hospital. They were waiting for them when they arrived and took mom right upstairs to the heart unit. They had to put a pacemaker in. So now she has a little color back in her cheeks again and is feeling better already. My brother said she's so glad it turned out to be something because she was feeling like a dope every time she called that doctor. Anemia my ass. I'm going to have my sister check on her tomorrow and then let me know if I need to fly down and help her out. I'm going the first of Feb. for two weeks, but if mom needs me, I'm there. My dad just called and said that mom is doing 70% better already, so the doctors say she'll be able to go home tomorrow and that pacemaker will last her for 15 years. Mom and dad had a good laugh about that. Mom is 83 right now. She said the doctor was very optimistic about having a new one put in, in 15 years. LOL Dad says he'll call if they need me, but right now they think they'll be just fine. My prayers were answered, let me tell ya. Okay, I'm done rambling. Oh did I mention that they're getting a new doctor? Dad and mom both agreed on that subject.
Have a nice weekend, Patt
UPDATE:
I talked to my mom on the phone tonight and the doctor said she has to rest for a week and then she'll feel like dancing again. Mom told him,"I don't dance now." He told her that she might just feel so good that she'll feel like it. :) She sounded sore and weak, but today was only day two. I asked her if she wanted me to come down and she said no,it would take dad's job away. He's been cook, cleaner and nurse for the last three weeks, she doesn't want to let him go now. LOL Things are looking up. :) |
